Hooray for UMASS grads!

Two days ago, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst gave Andrew Card at honorary degree during their graduation ceremonies. Watch the video below to see how the faculty and graduates reacted to this "honor." It's awesome!

I can't really understand why the University would choose someone like Card for this in the first place. I can only guess that there remains a chasmic disconnect between the inhabitants of the "ivory tower" and the sentiments of the masses. Perhaps this incident will gve them a jolt of reality.

No, no -- the board of trustees awards the honorary degrees. The trustees are political appointees, mostly selected by the recently departed Mitt Romney. They're about as far removed as possible from sentiment in the "ivory towers" of UMass.

Thanks for clearing that up. Although, in a way, the board of trustees is even more of an ivory tower than the deans are--they have virtually no contact with the faculty and students and act only in their own interests. Anyway those are my random midnight thoughts.

Holy crap!

I wish that sort of thing weren't so rare from liberals and the educated.
